Your data and privacy

Where StepKit keeps your guides, what the recorder reads, and what it never touches.

Local by default

Your guides, steps and screenshots are stored in your browser, on your machine. On the Free plan nothing leaves it. Uninstalling StepKit deletes the guides with it, so save a backup first (see Backup and restore).

What the recorder reads

StepKit records only while a capture you started is running, and the red dot on the page tells you so. It reads the names of the elements you click and where you clicked, to title each step and place the click highlight. It never reads what you type: there are no typing steps.

In step titles, emails, phone numbers, IBANs and card numbers show as •••. Page addresses are kept without the part after # and without parameters that carry tokens, codes or emails.

Blur is for good

Blur and crop change the screenshot itself. Once you save, the hidden part is gone from the image, not just covered.

When something leaves your device

Sync and share links are part of Pro, and only run when you sign in and use them. The privacy policy on toolclack.com lists what is stored and for how long.
