About this tool

A UUID (universally unique identifier) is a 128-bit ID written as 36 characters, like 3f2b8c1e-9a4d-4e7b-8f10-2c6d5e9a7b31. Because version 4 UUIDs are random, anyone can create them without a central registry and still never clash.

Use them wherever you need an ID before the database gives you one: records, files, requests, test data.

This tool is built by ToolClack and, like everything we make, it is local-first: your data stays in your browser.

Frequently asked questions

Can two UUIDs ever be the same?

In practice, no. A version 4 UUID carries 122 random bits: you could generate billions every second for years before a collision became likely.

Which version are these?

Version 4, the random kind, which is what most databases and APIs expect when they ask for a UUID.

Are they generated on a server?

No. They come from your browser’s crypto.randomUUID, so nobody else ever sees them.
